Let’s say for example your partner is being mean to you and you’ve had enough, it’s a good thing to say to him I’ve had enough instead turning to the alcohol or drugs to temporarily stop the feeling 

Vulnerability is a powerful coping mechanism and not a weak one, use it to your advantage and you will always be on top of your emotions
